La Monte Lamoureux

My interest in Art dates back to many of my earliest memories.  Born in 1977, Anchorage, Alaska, I found inspiration from the local Native Art and the surrounding landscape to begin practicing painting.  My family encouraged my artistic hobbies through the long dark winter months and my passion to explore the outdoors during the fantastic summer days.

I graduated from Bainbridge Island High School, Washington State, with the dream that one day I’ll be able to support my artistic desires and continue to travel.  I achieved a B.S in Biology and a minor in Fine Arts at Sierra Nevada College, Incline Village, Nevada.                                                                                                                                                                  Having the opportunity to study in Australia, I developed a passion for the ocean and surfing.  I now live in California with my beautiful wife and two dogs.  I work for a leading global medical manufacture and fill my extra time working with the community, surfing, playing soccer and painting for family, friends and clients.                                                                                                                                                                             May you enjoy the site and be easy.

LaMonte Lamoureux has made a life following his love of the outdoors. Born and raised in Alaska, Lamoureux joined a ski racing team at Incline Village and took up surfing in Australia. The California coast lured him to San Francisco, and eventually Sacramento, where he and his wife now live in Natomas Park.  ”It’s ideal. I’m between the mountains and the surf,” he says of his Natomas home.

That love of the outdoors infuses his acrylics ad illustrations. “I majored in biology in college,” he says, “but I had been painting and drawing all my life. It was a great way to use a different part of my brain.”  He is now a western region sales manager for a medical equipment manufacturer, and art is still “a good way to escape and have fun.”

To get exposure for his work, Lamoureux produced holiday cards featuring his illustration and sold them through local stores in San Francisco.  That led to commissioned work, which continues although he has yet to offer his cards for sale in Natomas.

He describes his approach as “very realistic, with an emphasis on capturing the moment of the environment around us.  Being able to hike and travel, I’ve had the advantage of seeing a lot of places, especially on the West coast.  I grab onto a little of each of those  in my paintings.  I try to capture the light and blending of colors that happens in nature.”

Lamoureux continues an active life.  He is in his second season with the Sacramento Adult Men’s Soccer League on the Black Forest Football Club.  ”it helps me get connected with the community,” he says.  His goals include gallery shows, continued emphasis on experimenting with his technique, and more travel.  He plans to add photography to his web site.
